This talk will highlight the ways in which cutting-edge scientific techniques can add to our understanding of the past – and how medievalists can on occasion make a contribution to scientific research.
The Sun King and his councilors considered his medals as the summit of his propaganda. More than 300, mostly imitated from Roman Imperial coins, were coined to celebrate his reign (1638-1715) and a luxurious folio book was printed by the Royal Press. The so-called Small Academy looked after the venture.
The event will explore not only the destruction of the Stari Most and its impact on Bosnians, the neighbouring regions and the wider world, but will take a critical look at its rebuilding that was promoted as a landmark project of the international community in postwar Bosnia-Herzegovina and scrutinize whether these aspirations for reconciliation and reintegration were achieved.
