About Archaeologia

Archaeologia, or, Miscellaneous Tracts Relating to Antiquity, was a scholarly print journal published irregularly by the Society of Antiquaries of London between 1770 and 1991. It was relaunched as an occasional, wholly digital imprint in 2023, with the aim to publish Open Access research papers of a length that falls between upper limit for The Antiquaries Journal (c 10,000 words) and lower limit for monograph, and/or which deal with data best handled or presented in digital formats. Papers are published via the SAL website under an open access CC-BY licence. Papers receive a digital object identifier (DOI) and are fully citable from the date of publication on the SAL website.

Archaeologia is concerned with the study of the human past through material culture and material remains. It is international, multi-period and multi-disciplinary in scope, covering the full range of historical disciplines from earliest prehistory to the recent past, including, but not confined to, archaeology, art history, architectural and buildings history, conservation, heraldry, and the histories of collecting and intellectual enquiry into the past.
