We hold regular Ordinary Meetings, public lectures, and conferences throughout the year at Burlington House, Kelmscott Manor, and online. We welcome applications from a wide range of disciplines on topics connected to the material past.

If you would like to propose a lecture or conference please fill out the appropriate form and send it to the Programme Development Manager, Dr Anouska Lester, at [email protected]. Proposals are reviewed annually; please note that the deadline for the 2025 programme has passed.

The deadlines our 2026 programme are 3 March 2025 for conferences and 1 September 2025 for lectures.

Lectures

Our evening and lunchtime lectures are open for all to attend at Burlington House and online. Our Ordinary Meetings (Thursdays, 5-6pm) are a chance for Fellows and guests to come together to hear updates from the Society and learn about the latest antiquarian research. These meetings celebrate Fellows’ research and discoveries related to material culture from around the world. Our lunchtime lectures (Tuesdays, 1-2pm) showcase work by researchers and heritage professionals. All of our lectures are open to the public and speakers should anticipate an audience with expertise and interests in a wide range of disciplines.

We do not pay speakers’ fees but we can reimburse some domestic travel expenses, if agreed in advance. We aim to record lectures and accompanying presentations and make them available online following the event.

Please note that the deadline for the 2025 programme has passed. The deadline for our 2026 lecture programme is 1 September 2025.

Conferences

We aim to host two full-day conferences annually at Burlington House and online. We encourage organisers to present proposals for conferences that have clear research benefits, academic or professional objectives, or calls to action. Organisers would be expected to plan the conference programme, recruit speakers and chairs, and work with the Society’s staff to organise and promote the event. They are supported in conference planning with the loan of the Society’s rooms, provision of catering, and support of staff to manage and promote the event. The Society has capacity for up to 100 attendees in-person and 1000 online.

We do not pay speaker fees but we are able to reimburse some domestic travel expenses, if agreed in advance. If additional fees or speakers’ expenses will be required (or other additional costs), we may ask that the organiser secure an additional grant or sponsor.
