Boynton Hall Simply Told

November 23, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

ORDINARY MEETING OF FELLOWS EVENING LECTURE

Out of London Meeting: York

Boynton Hall Simply Told

by Dr Adrian Green FSA

Boynton Hall, near Bridlington, was occupied by the Strickland family from 1549 to 1950. The Boynton Research Project has investigated the archaeology of the buildings and landscape, and researched the social history of the site and development of the landed estate, leading to two publications. One is a fully referenced monograph entitled A Social and Archaeological History of a Yorkshire Country House, accompanied by a more accessible summary – Boynton Hall Simply Told. This lecture summarises the history of Boynton Hall, exploring its development from the sixteenth century through to the twentieth century. The aim of the project has been to explain how each generation remodelled the house and gardens to express their place in the world.
