How To Get Here

Kelmscott Manor is located along the Thames in the picturesque village of Kelmscott. Kelmscott is approximately 3 miles from Lechlade (on B4449). Signposted from both the A417 and the A4095, visitors can easily travel by car; it can also be reached by walking or cycling along the Thames Path. Additionally, the Manor has a private mooring and can be reached by boat. Due to the idealistic rural setting, public transport to the Manor is very limited.

Kelmscott Manor is easily reached by car, with signposting directing visitors to the Manor from A417 and A4095. When approaching from Lechlade, please follow brown signs, taking the second turning on the right to the village.

There is a short walk from the car park to the Manor (approx. 10 to 12 minutes).

We do have a drop-off point at the Manor House for wheelchair users or visitors with limited mobility.

Please do not leave dogs in parked cars. The Car Park by the church has very little shade. For more information, please see our policy regarding dogs at the Manor on our Dog page.

Please note that Kelmscott is a working village with two busy farms and private properties.

Please respect the privacy of the villagers and do not enter private property when walking through the village.

The only parking options for those visiting the Manor is our main car park next to the church or, for those with limited mobility, at the Manor.

Please do not park in the narrow village lanes. Be aware that parking on pathways is illegal and could result in a parking fine. Local law enforcers will be patrolling the village on our open days.

Please read more about accessibility at Kelmscott Manor and contact us to let us know how we can help you.

There are taxi services available in surrounding cities, towns and villages that frequently drop off and pick up visitors at Kelmscott Manor.

Both Swindon and Oxford have trains stations that operate a frequent service to and from London (and elsewhere), with taxi services available from there to the Manor.

Travel by Boat, Cycle or on Foot

Kelmscott Manor is only 200 metres along a track from the Thames Path and the river itself, at a point where it is possible to moor, temporarily.

If you cycle to the Manor, ignore signs to our main car park as you enter the village and follow signs for the Manor itself. Bikes can be stored in bike racks within the Manor’s grounds (but not under any cover).

Kelmscott Manor is approximately 3 miles from Lechlade, and the Thames Path runs from Lechlade to the Manor mooring station. A vigorous, but pleasant, walk!

Additional Information

Kelmscott Manor is a Grade I listed building, and we have done our best to protect the character of the seventeenth-century manor and estate the Morris family loved. While we can accommodate wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility, some areas of the house and estate may not be accessible. To learn more, visit our ‘Accessibility’ page.
