Magna Carta
Society of Antiquaries of London
In association with ITSEE, University of Birmingham

The Society of Antiquaries of London owns three copies of Magna Carta. In 2015, to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta (1215), we created an electronic edition comprising full-text transcriptions and digital images of each copy.

About the Manuscripts

The manuscripts are as follows:

Study the Manuscripts Online

Three different views are available in this electronic edition:

  • Open the Manuscript Viewer (Transcription and images of each page side-by-side)
  • Open the Synopsis (Texts of the three manuscripts for each chapter of Magna Carta)
  • Open the Comparison Window (Scrolling view of the three texts)

Please note: All links open in separate windows.

Acknowledgements

This project was made possible with the kind support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, The Headley Trust, The Ruddock Foundation for the Arts and the Magna Carta 800th Anniversary Committee. Their generous support also made possible the Society's 2015 Magna Carta Through the Ages exhibition.
