Chequered Histories: Image, Process and Time in Neolithic Britain and Ireland

The Making a Mark project examined the decorated artefacts from Neolithic Britain and Ireland using digital recording methods in order to gain a better understanding of the process of manufacture associated with decoration. The project compared the results of this analysis with the better known passage tomb art and rock art. As a result we present a framework for understanding the different practices associated with mark making in Neolithic Britain and Ireland and establish distinctions between different aspects of Neolithic visual phenomena.
