In 2001 the Portable Antiquities Scheme in Wales was a National Lottery Funded pilot scheme to assess the benefits of a voluntary project tasked with recording archaeological finds made by members of the public. Twenty years later, PAS in Wales is funded by the Welsh Government to work closely with finder communities across Wales and to ensure that information about material culture discoveries is captured for the benefit of all.
This presentation will give an overview of the personal experiences of working within PAS based at Amgueddfa Cymru National Museum Wales during some periods of difficult change and emerging ideas of public archaeology.
