Beardless Young Man

Neither the artist nor the subject of this beautiful but enigmatic picture has so far been conclusively identified. The portrait is of a high calibre as evidenced in the bold use of colour, the masterly rendering of the costume, the barely perceptible modelling of the young man’s face and the naturalistic treatment of his densely curling, slightly disordered, glistening hair, which is rendered with a miniaturist’s precision.
