If you are eligible and you would like to apply for one of our grants, please read the step by step guide below and follow the instructions carefully. We cannot consider your application if it is incomplete.

Step 1: Download and complete the application form

Please follow the instructions on the form and complete each area.

Step 2: Prepare your document(s) for submission

Once you have downloaded and completed your form make sure that it is less than 10MB in size or it will not upload properly.
Gather any supporting documents required such as photographs, architect’s reports or budgets and check that they are also 10MB in size.

Step 3: Notify your referee(s)

You are responsible for making sure that your references reach us by the deadline of midnight on 21st January. (The deadline for all applications, except William and Jane Morris Church Conservation Grants, is midnight on 15th January). 

All of our grants (except William and Jane Morris Church Conservation Grants) require references. Two references are required for Margaret and Tom Jones Memorial and Beatrice De Cardi awards.

You should alert your referee(s) of the application deadline in advance, giving them the information necessary for completing the reference form.

Please note that members of Research Committee cannot acts as referees for SAL grant applications. Committee details here.

Step 4: Submit Your Application Online

Once you have completed your grant application form and notified your referee(s), return to this website, select the grant you’re applying for from the list below and follow the steps to apply.

Upload your application form (and supporting documents, if any), identify your referee(s) where applicable, and ‘submit’. All submissions are final.

Step 5: Ensure your references are completed

Following your submission, your referee(s) will receive an automated email from our website (triggered by the submission of your application materials). The email will have a unique URL/link to an online reference form (with instructions) to be filled out and submitted in support of your application. Once submitted, your referee(s) will receive on on-screen ‘Thank You’ message confirming receipt of the reference, they will not receive a confirmation email.

You are responsible for ensuring that your referee has received the notification containing the link and has provided your reference(s) by the reference deadline of midnight on 21st January.

Applications with incomplete references will not be considered.
