Make a Grant Application

You can find out if you are eligible for one of our awards by reading guidance on our Research and Travel Grants and William and Jane Morris Church Conservation Grants.

If you are eligible and you would like to apply for one of our grants, please read the step-by-step guide below and follow the instructions carefully. We cannot consider your application if it is incomplete.

Make a Grant Application

Step 1: Follow the link below to our Grants Application Portal

Follow the instructions and select ‘Submit a new application’ to sign in to your account or create a new account on our Grants Application Portal.

Please ensure to make a note of your login details when you create your account. You can request a new password by clicking ‘Lost Password?’

Step 2: Select and fill in the appropriate application form

Select either the ‘Research and Travel Grants’ or ‘William and Jane Morris Church Conservation Grants’ and submit a new application or continue with an existing application.

You can select ‘Save and Exit’ to save your progress at any time and return to your application later.

For the William and Jane Morris Church Conservation Grants you will also need to gather and upload any supporting documents required such as photographs, architect’s reports or budgets and check that they are 10MB or less in size.

Step 3: Notify your referee(s)

Following your submission, your referee(s) will receive an automated email prompting them to create an account on our Grants Application Portal and submit their reference in support of your application.

You are responsible for making sure that your references reach us by the deadline of midnight on 21st January. (The deadline for all applications, except William and Jane Morris Church Conservation Grants, is midnight on 15th January). 

All of our grants (except William and Jane Morris Church Conservation Grants) require references. Two references are required for Margaret and Tom Jones Memorial and Beatrice De Cardi awards.

You should alert your referee(s) of the application deadline in advance, giving them the information necessary for completing the reference form.

Please note that members of Research Committee cannot acts as referees for SAL grant applications. Committee details here.

Step 4: Submit your application online

Once you have completed your grant application form and notified your referee(s), select ‘Validate and Send’. You will receive an automated confirmation email when your project is submitted. All submissions are final.

Step 5: Ensure your references are completed

You are responsible for ensuring that your referee has received the notification containing the link and has provided your reference(s) by the reference deadline of midnight on 21st January.

Incomplete applications, including applications without the necessary references, will not be considered.
