Our Outreach & Learning Manager, Dr Michelle Johansen, gives an update about our Open Fridays, which are run as part of our Sensing History project.

Volunteer celebrate a birthday with a Colin the Caterpillar cake On Friday 26 April, we had our busiest Open Friday event yet. Almost 300 people from all parts of the world (Australia, the USA, Italy, Ukraine, Belgium, India, Basingstoke) came through the doors to find out who we are and what we do. Some of them took the time to enjoy a guided visit to the library to view our eighteenth-century falling ball clock and to view the portraits of key figures from our early history on the walls heading up the main staircase. As always our dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers offered a warm welcome to everyone. Somehow, they still had the energy left to celebrate volunteer Tony’s birthday with a Colin the Caterpillar cake in the staff room afterwards!

Open Fridays are part of our Sensing History at the Society of Antiquaries project, which is kindly supported by, National Lottery Heritage Fund, John Murray Charitable Trust, Movement For Good, & Museum Development London.
