If you are sending an email to library@sal.org.uk, it's advisable to request either a 'delivery receipt' or 'read receipt' message. If you don't receive a receipt then please contact us either by telephone (0207 479 7084), letter or fax (0207 287 6967).

Admission

  • Accredited readers may use the Society's Library for reference and without appointments

  • Research students require a recommendation from their supervisor, and should make an appointment before a first visit

  • Members of the public may apply to the Library for access for a limited period.

Opening hours

The Library is open from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, with an extension to 6.45pm on Thursdays when the Society is in session (October to May). Use of the Library on these Thursdays after 1pm is restricted to Fellows. The Society's premises are usually closed on public holidays and for the summer vacation (July and August).

Photocopying

Library material can be photocopied subject to copyright and if there is no risk of damage. Requests should be made in writing or by e-mail. In addition to the copying charge, there is a £2 handling charge for each remote order by those who are not Fellows of the Society. All payments should be in pound sterling.
